Coach József György’s hockey players from Debrecen started the battle with only five defenders, but four attacking trios.
Now the usual early goal rush was missed, after a quarter of an hour the home team took the lead in a man advantage situation. Rastislav Spirko equalized in the third period, and DEAC was already in the lead with Dominik Novotny’s goal in the middle of the second period. Not for long, because the home team equalized just over a minute later, Sebastien Sylvestre scoring again. Ottó Sándor-Székely also scored in Hetényi’s goal, so the second period ended with the hosts having the advantage.
At the beginning of the closing stage, Hunor Császár increased the lead of the leader. DEAC fought with great momentum to score points, and in the 56th minute, Jan Dalecky’s goal managed to improve the result. One and a half minutes before the end of the match, the team from Debrecen switched to playing with an empty goalkeeper, Hetényi was replaced by a field player in the team, starting a siege for the equaliser.
It didn’t work out, but the team from Debrecen deserves praise for defeating the defending champion Csíkszereda and for standing tall against the current leader Gyergyói HK.
DEAC remained in the 5th position, the team will host Brasov on home ice on Thursday.
