The flu doesn’t choose this year either
During this period, the flu epidemic peaks, which, according to experts, is largely due to the fact that many young and chronic patients did not request the vaccine during the December vaccination campaign. Many people complain of the flu, but after testing, it often turns out that the coronavirus is causing the unpleasant symptoms – we learned from Dr. From Anita Kárándi, who practices at the family doctor’s office on Sámsoni út in Debrecen. To our question, he said that this disease doesn’t discriminate between age groups either; the symptoms – high fever, joint pain, falling down and coughing – occur in similar proportions in young and old.
According to the specialist, those who did not request the vaccine during the December vaccination campaign may fare worse due to the flu epidemic that has peaked recently. The vaccination provided protection after two weeks, so those who were forward-looking at the end of the New Year have a high chance of getting through the period without getting sick, he noted. In his office, the doctor noticed that mainly the elderly applied for vaccination, despite the fact that all age groups, especially those suffering from chronic diseases, should be vaccinated.
According to my experience, the symptoms of flu patients are not more serious than in previous years, the number of complicated cases and hospital referrals is almost the same as in previous years
he added. He also emphasized that he recommends wearing a mask, which, by the way, is mandatory when entering the clinic and even the waiting room.
Thirty thousand people nationwide were diagnosed with a flu-like illness in the last week of January, the National Center for Public Health announced on Thursday. In the fourth week of the year, 211,400 people consulted a doctor with symptoms of an acute respiratory infection, of which 30,000 people were diagnosed with a flu-like illness, they wrote.
According to the report, 42.4 percent of patients were children, 29.2 percent were between 15 and 34 years old, 20 percent were between 35 and 59 years old, and only 8.7 percent were over 60 years old.
No ban here yet
In the Hajdú-Bihar county hospitals, this season, no departments or complete visitation bans have been announced, so until February 2, nationwide, it was decided to introduce restrictions in the Békés county hospitals and the Nagykanizsa hospital. According to the graphic published by the ÁNTSZ a few days ago, Hajdú-Bihar county is moderately at risk based on the number of people who go to the doctor with flu-like symptoms. Although the vaccination campaign has ended, it is still possible, according to the experts, to apply at the general practitioner’s office, and the vaccine can still be requested free of charge by people over the age of sixty and chronic patients.
