DSI Debrecen welcomed the best of the year at a festive gala

DSI Debrecen held its traditional festive gala again this year, where the leaders of the association awarded the best of the year in the Aquaticum Hotel’s Jupiter hall on Wednesday evening. At the ceremony our portal also participated. After the conference, László Papp, mayor of Debrecen, was the first to address the athletes, coaches, sports managers and interested parties.

The first man of the city expressed his conviction that the municipality of Cívisváros made one of the best decisions after the regime change when it founded the predecessor of the Debrecen Sports Center.

– I can also say on behalf of the city administration at the time that we had very serious plans in the field of sports – emphasized László Papp. – Our main goal was to be able to organize international competitions by expanding the infrastructure, of which we have since hosted 41.

There is something to be proud of in the past, the present and the future.

The leaders of the Sports School are not in an easy situation when they have to select the best of the previous year, since the approximately 1,000 athletes achieve great success every year, DSI is also among the best at the national level. Gergely Kiss, the Olympic champion water polo player, said that one should neither get carried away nor lose confidence in elite sports. Based on DSI’s organizational culture, our competitors become not only great athletes, but also healthy thinking people who will stand their ground in all areas of life. One of the world’s best athletes ever, Michael Jordan, testified that talent wins the game, but teamwork and intelligence win the championship – reminded the mayor, who said that he considers the Good student, good athlete award particularly important, and then congratulated everyone on for the results achieved and wished him much success for this year.

In his speech, András Becsky, the managing director of Debreceni Sportcentrum Kft., emphasized that it fills them with great pride that they can report new results and successes year after year. The sports leader then recalled the major sports events held in the city of Cívis. – We saw this year’s world champion Danish men’s handball team in Phoenix, but the women’s handball and men’s basketball finals were also held there. In the swimming pool, the best swimmers of our country competed for championship titles.

As part of the Aquatics World Championship, the sports pool was the venue for the water polo matches of one group each for men and women. The Velopark was also presented, which holds serious possibilities for the future.

The tip of our hearts is the world is round with you! our program that helps children choose sports. This year we are preparing for our 60th birthday, with a new image and name, but we are starting the year with old goals: we want to continue to be one of the leading sports associations in the country, said András Becsky.

The sports leader then mentioned the greatest successes of DSI’s athletes in 2022, and finally thanked the city, supporters and staff for helping the work of DSI Debrecen.

The speeches were later awarded to the best of the divisions, as well as to the winners of the title of Good Student, Good Athlete, who received the awards from László Papp, András Becsky and Balázs Makray. The organizers awarded a special prize to those athletes who qualified for international competitions – European, World Championships or Olympic Hopes. Lili Dobi, Gál Kincső, Tekla Orosz, Dóra Pusztai, Szabolcs Csáki, Gergő Dobi and Ferenc Zombori-Szalontai received such recognition.

Luca Kozák was chosen as the athlete of the year, his coach László Suba was the coach of the year in terms of the individual sport, and he was also awarded with a lifetime achievement award.

Dóra Pusztai (triathlon, coached by Zsolt Pap) was recognized by the experts as the female youth athlete of the year, while Gergő Dobi (triathlon, coached by Béla Dobi and Zsolt Pap) proved to be the best in the male youth field.

The Bárány family (László Bárány, Sr., László Bárány, and Péter Bárány, Jr.), who have been patronizing DSI Debrecen for a long time, also supported three outstanding athletes with HUF 1 million each.
