Russia may turn to AFC for additional investments, according to the Football Association of Uzbekistan
Russian Football Union (RFS) may apply to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for additional investments and new sponsors, according to the head of the international department of the Uzbekistan Football Association Sherzod Igamberdiev.
At the end of February, the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) banned international clubs and national teams from international matches. The Executive Committee of the RFU before the end of the year will vote on the transition from UEFA to the AFC.
– If we take the selection for the World Cup, then the Russian team is not a competitive country, because FIFA has increased the quota for Asia. Now there are 8 national teams for the World Cup. Four teams of stable exits from Asia: Japan, Korea, Iran and Australia, and there are four more places. Russia takes one quota for itself, but this quota does not in any way hinder or infringe upon the leaders of Asian football.
Possible transition of Russia to the AFC can be compared with the transition in Australia. This is too serious for the Asian teams, however, the members of the organization agreed to the transition, because it’s fresh air, something new. Moreover, Russia is a country that recently hosted the World Cup, it is a specialist with experience, these are additional investments and sponsors,” Igamberdiev said on Match TV.
