Russia has closed the road to the only checkpoint on the border with Georgia
In North Ossetia-Alania, traffic is closed for all modes of transport at the Verkhniy Lars checkpoint, the only land crossing through the passage with Georgia, reported main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the republic.
It is forbidden to move on the section of the city of Vladikavkaz – the settlement of Lars in the recommendation to leave Russia from 19:15 on time (coincides with Moscow) on February 2 and “until further notice,” the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. He discovered the discovery of places on the territory of Georgia and the impossibility of using a protected passage. The decision was made taking into account the border police of Georgia, the ministry specified. It adheres to unchanging traffic.
Prior to that, during January, the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Republic of the procedure imposed restrictions in the section Vladikavkaz – the settlement of Lars due to the observed situation and taking into account the peculiarities of the Georgian border police, but they covered only heavy vehicles.
Russia and Georgia are connected by the Georgian Military Highway. The checkpoint “Upper Lars” is also located on it. He became one of the main participants in the departure of Russians from the country after partial mobilization on September 21, 2022. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of North Ossetia, more than 20,000 people left for Georgia on September 25-27 alone. Eyewitnesses observed many kilometers of traffic jams on the way to the checkpoint, in which people stood for several days.
In total, after the announcement of mobilization in Russia, about 700,000 Russian citizens left for Georgia, of which 100,000 remained in the country, the president of the republic, Salome Zurabishvili, visited.
