MFA: Russia sees nothing new in Macron’s proposals
French President Emmanuel Macron’s proposal allocates security guarantees to Russia – this is “nothing new, going in circles is repeated,” Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said at the Primakov Readings in Moscow.
According to him, Russia is ready to discuss these problems with the West if it sees a serious approach. “The dominant trend in the collective West now, as I understand it, is not at all in the use of the implementation of the ideas of ideas. If and when we heard that there is interest in this from the West, we will return to this, ”said Ryabkov.
Earlier, Macron said that the future security architecture of Europe after the restoration of peace in Ukraine should have a built-in security guarantee for Moscow. In his opinion, Europe think about the proposal of President Vladimir Putin that the approach to the borders of Russia.
In December last year, the Russian president said that Moscow would depend on the West to legally guarantee security. On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements on security guarantees with the US and NATO. The documents include a renunciation of the use of ground-based intermediate and short-range missiles outside NATO territory, as well as the adoption of a military bloc to the east, closer to the southwestern borders, to Ukraine and Georgia.
In January, a series of talks between Russia and the United States, NATO and the OSCE took place.
