Prague 6 will plant an alley near the Castle and build a hospital for long-term patients, says the mayor | Prague 6 | From the region of | Prague Gossip
The new management of Prague 6 has a building permit for a new elementary school in Na Kocínce street and improvements to Macharova náměstí in Ořechovce. In honor of the Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik, the town hall also plans to plant an alley near Prague Castle. Jakub Stárek (ODS) told the mayor of Prague 6. The municipality is also continuing the construction of a hospital for long-term patients and rental apartments for young people in Ruzyna.
“Neighbors will pay for the redesign of the project”
The new elementary school will be located in Dejvice next to the Bílá Elementary School. According to Starek, ten classrooms are to be created on the site of the former clubs, and the school will use modern technology, for example to reduce energy consumption or use rainwater and solar energy. The town hall will draw a subsidy from the State Environmental Fund for the construction, the mayor said.
The school wanted to build about ten years ago, but local residents were against it. In the end, however, the town hall managed to come to an agreement. “We agreed to pay the neighbors to redesign the project. They said that they are already giving the money to the fight against the town hall anyway,” described the situation Jakub Starek. After the agreement, the residents had the project reworked at their own expense and provided free of charge to the town hall, which, according to him, would build it.
The first version of the project and the extension of Machar’s Square in Ořechovce, which included the cancellation of the tennis courts, also met with misunderstanding on the part of local residents. Instead, according to the mayor, a half-glazed wooden building will soon be erected on the square on the site of an unused dormitory, which will also serve as a background for the courts.

“City hall continues to prepare large investments”
The district also has a building permit for a new alley near Prague Castle, which is to be built in U Prašného mostu street and bear the name of the Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik, who was associated with the modification of Prague Castle at the beginning of the last century. Part of the modification will be the placement of mature trees, benches and the Plečnik column – an ancient column that will also have a functional use and will also serve as lighting. Parking here will no longer be possible.
In addition to the mentioned projects, which should start construction in the near future, it also continues to prepare large investments. The largest is the construction of long-term patients in Drnovská Street in Ruzyna. Podleu is expected to cost 290 million crowns without VAT and could be completed by 2026. After completion, the existing treatment center is to be moved there from the inadequate building in Chittussiho Street in Bubenč. The town hall also plans to build 42 rental apartments for young people in Ruzyna.
Since the end of October, the ODS coalition with KDU-ČSL, STAN with the support of the Greens and Prague 6 Self has been ruling in Prague 6. Together, they have a narrow majority of 23 votes in the forty-five-member council. Starek replaced Ondřej Kolář, whose TOP 09 ended up in the opposition after this year’s elections. Prague 6 is the third largest Prague district by population, with about 107,000 people living in it. It includes the cadastral territory of Břevnov, Dejvice, Liboc, Ruzyně, Střešovice, Veleslavín, Vokovice, part of Bubenče and Hradčany.
