The Finnish Nokian Tires is building a factory in the sister city of Debrecen
The Finnish Nokian Tires, which decided to close its factories in Russia in June due to the war in Ukraine, is building a tire factory in Nagyvárád with an investment of 650 million euros, the Romanian business portal Economiedia.ro reported on Tuesday. Construction will begin in early 2023, and production will begin in the second half of 2024. The Nagyvárad plant will produce 6 million tires per year, primarily for passenger cars and SUVs. The plant targeting the Central European market can employ around 500 employees.
Out of forty possible locations, the company chose Nagyvárad, taking into account the qualified profit advantage, the logistics mandate, the step-back and the stable business environment
Adrian Kaczmarczyk, vice president of supply, was quoted by the Romanian economic portal. According to the information of the company, which also has plants in Finland and the United States of America, the one in Nagyvára will be their first carbon-neutral plant. Until now, 80 percent of their passenger car ABSs were manufactured in Russia, and Russia and Asia accounted for 20 percent of the sales market.
In September, Romanian Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca received a delegation of Nokian Tires in Bucharest, presenting them with state subsidies used by large investors. Ciuca expressed Romania’s openness to those demands, which is why it is supported by those investors who relocate their plants as a result of Russian aggression against Ukraine, the Romanian economic portal wrote.
