The University of Debrecen received a new cure due to increased energy prices
In a staff circular, the chancellor of the institution informed the teachers, researchers and employees of the University of Debrecen about the possibilities of intervention aimed at reducing energy consumption. The measures are effective from October 1 until the end of the study period, December 9, and do not limit educational or examination activities.
From the first of October, the cost of some energy sources will rise in university buildings like never before. Both the consumption of gas and the use of district heat can be used at many times the price, which will have a significant impact on our everyday life, which is why the institution asks for the cooperation and understanding of the university citizens regarding the observance of energy measures – read on hirek.unideb.hu.
“It is extremely important that we look for rationalization and savings opportunities with all our might, since the size of the cost increase has a decisive influence on the university’s liquidity, so together we want to be able to safely cover the wages from month to month. During the performance of university duties, the guidelines of Government Decree 353/2022 (IX.19) are taken into account. Reasonable, cost-saving operation that changes human usage habits is important in all areas,” reads the information sheet.
The University of Debrecen uses temperature reduction and other cost-saving measures until the end of the academic period, December 9, but does not restrict education and examination activities.
Regarding the examination period and its schedule, as well as the start and schedule of the spring semester, the university management will soon take measures to ensure that the 25 percent gas consumption savings can be achieved if the tasks to be performed can be completed.
The information sheet provides information on a number of intervention options in connection with both central heating and the use of electricity, among other things
depending on the function, a minimum temperature of 18 °C can be determined, which is an exception for patient care, nurseries, kindergartens, primary schools, dormitories, and service services, where the apartment maintains a minimum school temperature of 20-22 °C.
“For those working in buildings with reduced temperatures, the university has ordered waist-warming blankets as an occupational safety tool, which will be available immediately after their arrival (expectedly until mid-October),” the announcement reads.
