There will also be cheese, pralines, a flag thrower and horn players at the Swiss Days in Debrecen
Between October 3rd and 9th, the culture of Switzerland will be presented in Debrecen as part of the ALL-IN Debrecen program series – reported Mayor László Papp at the Wednesday press conference held in the mayor’s conference room in Simonffy Street.
As he pointed out, he is very happy that Debrecen is one of the centers of interest of Swiss Ambassador Jean-Francois Paroz in Hungary, as the city is proud of the historical ties that bind it to Switzerland, specifically Geneva. – Not only the historical past, but also the present connects us very closely: several Swiss companies have chosen the city of Cívis as their home. Debrecen has a stronger economic center charge as a country, I think that there are still a lot of reserves in this system, he pointed out. He believes that the Swiss Days will be very meaningful: we can gain an insight into Switzerland’s cultural, economic and political world, as well as its perception of democracy – from which we will certainly be able to learn.
Main objectives
– This is the first event of its kind to be held outside of Budapest in a large rural city, and I am proud that Debrecen became the first city to host the Swiss Days – Swiss Ambassador Jean-Francois Paroz. He also stated that their embassy has many goals: they have goals in the political, economic, social, and more important cultural fields.
– A few words about the political goals: Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, but we often experience a certain kind of pressure from Brussels to make certain decisions and to demonstrate our commitment to Europe. The Swiss Days will also be an occasion on which Switzerland will be able to present the contributions they make to Europe, he emphasized.
László Papp also explained that Switzerland is a member of the Schengen area (European citizens can travel within the Schengen area without a visa) and is fully integrated into the European market. There are still certain types of pressure (concerns from Brussels) that the latest legal documents are not adopted by Switzerland in all cases.
Bilateral relations
Jean-Francois Paroz explained at the press conference: both economically and socially, their relations with the European Union are very close, and within that: Switzerland’s relations with Debrecen are also very strong and solid. Focusing on this, I would like to show a little of the former as part of the Swiss Days next week.
– On the one hand, we will present the Swiss economic presence in the city, which is very important to know. If we illustrate those bilateral relations, they have always been mutually supportive in the relationship between the two countries, he said. He also emphasized that the relations in the political and economic fields are very strong, but they do not want to.
Among other things, there will be film screenings where those interested will be able to see Swiss films. They also organize treasure-hunting walks, on which we can discover Swiss-related places together in the city of Debrecen. In addition, they visit some secondary schools in Debrecen, where it is possible for the students to get to know Switzerland better. You can also taste local flavors in Debrecen: in addition to melted cheeses and creamy pralines, you can also taste Swiss wines. Four Alpine horn players will visit the city of Cívis to learn about the music of their country, and there will also be a flag-throwing artist to entertain the general public.
