Škoda and Volkswagen are coordinating the launch dates of the new Passat and Superb generations
The Superb model, which Škoda offered before the Second World War, returned to the range of the Mladá Boleslav car company in 2001. The third modern generation will soon be replaced by the fourth.
While this year the Mladá Boleslav carmaker actually presented only two more significant innovations – a coupe body version for the Enyaq electric car and a modernized Karoq – next year it will be much more “nutritious”.
This follows from information that the Deník editors obtained from reliable sources. Škoda is preparing facelifts for the Scala and Kamiq cars in the spring, and for the second half of 2023, a de facto farewell to the era of cars with internal combustion engines.
You can see in the photo gallery how Škoda, owned by Volkswagen, started with the Superb at the beginning of the millennium.
Both the fourth-generation Superb and the second Kodiaq will be introduced in the second half of next year. Exact dates are still being worked out. According to our sources, the Superb’s launch date is particularly problematic. This car has its “technical” twin in the next generation Volkswagen Passat.
As the editors of Deník managed to find out, the Volkswagen Passat will begin production at the VW plant in Bratislava in the 40th week of 2023. Coincidentally, that is exactly one year from now. It will come to the market at the turn of January and February of 2024. Before that, of course, it will be shown to journalists somewhere.
Škoda wants to put bumpers made from the same old part on new cars
But it is a question whether this will happen sooner than in the case of the Superb. In theory, Skoda would be entitled to an earlier date, since its engineers were developing both models, but in the past, the same segment of customers, hitting models with the VW logo, usually gets priority.
From 2024, only electric cars
“But it’s not a rule from which you can’t make an exception,” our source told us. “For example, the Enyaq was shown earlier than the Volkswagen ID.4,” he elaborated.
A “Solomonian” solution would also be offered. The Volkswagen Passat is still only available as a station wagon (Variant), while two body variants are being prepared for the Superb. So Škoda would first show a limousine, and Volkswagen just a station wagon.
Škoda showed its car for 2026. And also a new logo with a skillfully hidden hook
The date of the introduction of the SUV Kodiaq also needs to be balanced with a similar sensitivity. Even its premiere may collide with the new generation of the Volkswagen Tiguan.
After these premieres, Škoda will present only electric novelties. The first to arrive in 2024 will be the electric successor of the Karoq, followed by a small urban SUV and a large seven-seater car.
