The court confirmed the ex-wife of Radek Březina four years in prison for influencing witnesses — ČT24 — Czech Television
Březin’s ex-wife was tried for participation in an organized criminal group and for holding for the benefit of this group, where the sentence is two years to ten years. Dalajka and Kalakaj were also responsible for the same crimes.
According to the deals of the senate, Libor Losa, their actions follow the long-term criminal activity of Radek Březina, who tried to thwart his prosecution for illegal possession of alcohol by influencing witnesses. If, according to the judge, his plans were confirmed, his actions did not have to be proven.
“This is why we must view the actions of these three defendants as harmful and dangerous, and why we cannot look at them with the benefit of hindsight,” said the judge.
According to the indictment, Březina tried to imprison and influence dozens of witnesses from custody between 2012 and 2014, when he was there for the investigation of large-scale trades in untaxed alcohol. From custody, according to the prosecutor, he also offered five to ten million crowns to an Ostrava criminal investigator for removing key evidence from the criminal file.
According to the prosecutor, through his wife at the time, Stanislava Březina, he tasked subordinates and wanted them to learn written statements or to deny or “forget”. According to the indictment, he offered tens to hundreds of thousands of crowns to witnesses for learned statements, and reduced interest rates to debtors.
Březina’s ex-wife faces another eight years in prison
Instructions for influencing witnesses were found in the custody of Březina and in the defendants. Březin’s ex-wife, who got married the year before and goes by the name Kudlejová, transcribed the messages from custody and passed them on to other defendants, who initiated the witnesses in the case according to Březin’s instructions. “The defendant was the main person who was considered by Radek Březina as his intermediary and who was in direct contact with him,” the judge noted, adding that the four-year sentence was appropriate.
Kudlejová, who, together with Březin’s father, is still responsible for the legalization of criminal activity, asked the court to be lenient. “I don’t feel guilty. Radek is really a manipulator, I don’t know why the police didn’t intervene, we could have avoided it,” she said. Dalajka and Kalakaj also asked the court for leniency. Dalajka is also responsible for the tax branch of Březin’s case before the court; it is a renewal in the case of Cinol.
The Brno Regional Court imposed a summary sentence on Březin for influencing witnesses. The original thirteen years imposed in the main tax branch of the case increased to 14 years and nine months. The Supreme Court, however, his stopped the prosecution with the fact that these acts have already been legally decided.
In addition to Březina, the court also decided to stop criminal prosecution against Pavel Čaniga from Likérka Drak, whose original sentence was increased by half a year to twelve years by the Brno Regional Court, and against the administrator of Březina’s buildings, Ivan Kovářík, who was given a summary sentence of nine years and eight months, also by half a year year stricter. The Supreme State Attorney’s Office is now deciding whether to file an appeal.
