The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry was outraged by the words of the Russian confirmed about the events of January 1991
On August 31, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry handed a note of protest to the “representative of the Russian embassy”, in which the department issued an official statement from Chargé d’Affaires ad interim for Russian-Lithuanian affairs Sergey Ryabokon. About it reported on the website of the ministry.
The report says that the statements of Russian diplomacy “belittle” the events of January 13, 1991 and “cynically distort the historical facts” associated with countless events. During the meeting, Ryabokon was reminded that Art. 41 of the Vienna Convention on revealed cases of intercourse prescribes external manifestations, “enjoys privileges and immunities”, respects the laws and legal acts of enforcement and prohibits them from interfering with the scope of the affairs of the receiving party.
We are talking about Ryabokon’s comments on the statement of Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, who suggests asking Russians entering the border whether they consider Crimea open. The entry of those who responded constructively “is not in the interests of Lithuania’s national security,” the minister added.
Ryabokon declaredthat Russia could take a measure of the mirror – and upon entering the duty of the Lithuanians to admit that on January 13, 1991 in Vilnius “their own shot at their own.” The diplomat added that Lithuanian observers conducting research on this topic “pay with freedom” for scientific interests.
In March 1990, the Supreme Council of Lithuania declared the republic independent, but the USSR authorities declared this decision illegal as contrary to the constitution. At the beginning of 1991, there were protests in Lithuania, and special forces soldiers were sent from Moscow.
On the night of January 13, 1991, a column of armored vehicles entered the center of Vilnius, the crews of which were instructed to “ensure public order.” The Lithuanian side claims that during the clashes near the television center of the tragedy, 14 people were injured, and more than 600 were injured. The Lithuanian Prosecutor General’s Office opened a criminal case into the incident.
The investigation announced that those who died at the television center were killed by Soviet soldiers. Participants in the events from the opposite side claimed that there was a provocation, and people were shot from the roofs of houses.
