The western bypass bypassing downtown Debrecen has been completed
The third phase of the western bypass bypassing the center of Debrecen has been completed, and with this, motorists can now take possession of the entire two-kilometer long road, it was announced at the handing over of the road section on Wednesday.
László Papp (Fidesz-KDNP), the mayor of Debrecen, reminded us that already in the 1930s, the decongesting minor circuit parallel to the city’s main street, which has now been realized, was planned.
The investment is the result of a long process: the first section was completed in 2012, the second in 2015, and the third, 419-meter section, has now been completed, he explained.
He added that the works cost HUF 1.6 billion, for which the municipality provided HUF 230 million of its own resources. During the long preparation, an additional HUF one billion was spent on expropriations, László Papp said.
On the 2×3 lane boulevard, bus lanes and bicycle paths were also created, and 163 new trees were planted, he said.
Fidesz member of parliament Lajos Kósa, whose mayorship initiated the investment, called the road the prime minister’s tour, three sections were named after Count István Tisza, Imre Nagy and József Antall.
He said: as a result of the stable city management of Debrecen for the past 24 years, such large-scale investments as the western small circuit, formerly tram number 2, and the development of the downtown pedestrian zone can be realized.
Local government representative Csaba Papp from Fidesz recalled that significant developments have taken place in the electoral district in recent years. As an example, he mentioned the construction of tram line 2, the transformation of Pesti utca into a six-lane road and the construction of the western minor circuit.
