Today, Prague Airport surpassed last year’s number of passengers
The airport exceeded the threshold of one million passengers per month.
Interest in flying is growing, data from Prague Airport show. Today, shortly after 7 o’clock, 4,427,033 passengers crossed the border. This is the same number of passengers handled by Prague Airport for the whole of last year.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of Prague Airport, Jiří Pos, announced on Twitter that the number of passengers had exceeded last year. The news comes just two weeks after the airport broke the passenger handling threshold for 2020 (June 17, 2022). Thus, in 17 days, the airport handled 800,000 people, which essentially brought it to pre-covid numbers during the peak holiday season.
However, there will be no return to pre-covid values for the whole year, the airport has so far increased the estimate of the number of passengers for the whole year to more than 10 million. During the two holiday months, the airport expects a total of up to 2.7 million passengers.
A large increase can be expected mainly for trips to traditional holiday destinations, the spokeswoman said. “In the summer, we expect to be at 120 percent of the pre-Covid status in the charter holiday flight segment this year,” Prague Airport spokeswoman Klára Divíšková pointed out to ČTK. Currently, the most passengers fly to Antalya, Turkey.
Similar to many other airports, Ruzyna also faces a shortage of staff. This can lead to delays at airport security checks.
