unveiled the winners of the Siena Awards contest dedicated to artistic and contemporary photography
The False Illusion shot by Portuguese photographer Andre Boto wins the title of overall winner of the 2022 edition of the Creative Photo Awards, the competition dedicated to artistic photography and of the Siena Awards, an international festival of visual arts. The image that comes from Montijo, Portugal, shines the spotlight on pollution, a problem that, although it affects everyone, is too often underestimated.
The photo, selected from thousands of thousands of images sent by photographers from 128 countries, will be on display to the winning photos of the 12 categories of the 2022 edition, on the occasion of the Siena Awards to be held in the Tuscan city from 1 October to 20 November. The event will also feature the winning shots of the SIPA (Siena International Photo Awards), the Drone Photo Awards, as well as the personal exhibitions of Danish Siddiqui (Indian photographer killed on July 16, 2021), while documenting the movers between Afghan and Taliban troops), You love Vitale, Dan Winters and Peter Mather.
The winners of the Creative Photo Awards 2022
In the Abstract category, Macedonian photographer Ana Joveva won first place with the shot “Motherhood” shot in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. “Fish, you can!” is the title of the shot by Bulgarian photographer Yuliy Vasilev, winner in the Food & Beverage category; an invitation to use fresh and genuine products instead of canned ones.
The Conceptual category sees Spanish photographer Tania Barrenetxea in first place with “Swallow”, an image taken during a time when the photographer was struggling with anxiety and an all-consuming feeling of emotional overwhelm. Chinese photographer Fenqiang (Frank) Liu won the Nature & Landscape category with “Secret Garden”, a photo taken in Kraft Azalea Garden, Florida, of a white heron taking flight from an oak tree.
First place in the Nudes category for “The Death of Marat” by Chinese photographer Du Yi. Instead comes from Certaldo, in the province of Florence, the shot entitled “Arrival of the Bride” which wins the Wedding category. The photo of the Italian photographer Damiano Salvadori captures the emotion of the groom while waiting for his future wife.
The winning photo of the Architecture category, taken by Palestinian photographer Ahmad Kaddourah and entitled “White Door”, still comes from Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. A shot dedicated to the “doors”, a universal symbol of entry and exit in all the cultures of the world.
With the image titled “Hope”, photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs takes first place in the Animals / Pets category for the third consecutive year. A photo dedicated to a small gorilla born at the Madrid zoo thanks to a European program for the protection of endangered species that the photographer has been documenting for years. In the Portraiture category, the Iranian photographer Alireza Sahebi takes the top step of the podium with the photo entitled “Aram”. An image created with the purpose of focusing the gaze on the subject’s face through some precautions: remove clothes from the body, emphasize freckles and use green as a symbol of nature.
The photo “Flowers and Bird”, by Indonesian Budi Gunawan, wins first place in still life thanks to a splendid bird caught in flight on a vase full of flowers to symbolize the beauty of nature. On the other hand, “Just in Time” is the title of the shot by the Australian Jo Howell, winner of the Experimental with an image from the category that highlights geometric connotations that enhances the impressive capacity for social interaction of the forms.
The Open Theme category sees in first place the photo entitled “Gregory’s Gone” by the German Horst Kistner dedicated to the meeting, in an old Coffee House, between Edward Hopper (The Nighthawk) and Gregory Crewdson, one of the favorite photographers of the author of the shot . In the Beauty category, it is again the Chinese photographer Du Yi who wins with the shot “Heart-shaped wing”.
The Iranian photographer Abolfazl Jafarian, passionate about black and white portraits, colors in his opinion crucial to reveal feelings, won the Fashion category with “Magical Girl”. In the Music category, however, Dutch Cheraine Collette wins with “The Way of the Erhu”, a self-portrait with the Erhu, a traditional Mongolian string instrument.
First place for French photographer Karine Faby in the Product category with “i8 Wheel”, a close-up of the bodywork and front wheel of a BMW i8.
Finally, it is the American photographer Diana Cheren Nygren with “The Persistence of Family” and winning the Storyboard section.
