Industrial production drops 2% in April in Portugal, after growing 4.5% in March
Industrial production in the European Union fell by 0.5% in April, year-on-year, according to the latest Eurostat data, released this Wednesday. The drop compared to the same month of last year is directly related to the energy increases registered in this period in the prices of natural gas in the European markets, which consequently also caused the prices of electricity, with failures in the supply chains and components, among other conditions.
Looking only at the Euro, this reduction was more related to the Zone: 2% in one year.
Comparing April 2022 with the previous month, industrial production (seasonally adjusted) increased by 0.4% in the Eurozone and 0.3% in the EU. In March, the European Union industry had produced 1% less and 1.4% less in the Eurozone. In Portugal, Eurostat reports that industrial production fell by 2% in April 2022, after having started the year with a strong reduction (minus 5.1%), then recovering in February (0.8%) and March (4 ) .5%).
If comparing February to the same period last year, the national industry is producing less this year than in 2021 (4.4% less in January, 5.5% less in January, then an increase to 0.4% in new minus 2.1% in April).
Finally, the latest consumer goods plus 3% EU consumption of goods (7.5% minus consumer goods, 0.5% energy increased, 6% increased consumer goods) 4.9% and non-durable consumer goods 7.5%.
Among the Member States there are which are the largest decreases in data available, in annual production were recorded in (minus 30.9%), Slovakia (minus 96%) and Malta (minus 9.4%). The biggest increases were seen in Lithuania (up 20.6%), Denmark (up 17.0%) and Bulgaria (up 16.9%).
