Russian LNG is being dried by oars – EADaily – Russia News. Russia news. Russia. News. News Russia. Russia news today. Russia latest news. News of Russia 27.05.2022. News of Russia May 27, 2022. Russia May 27, 2022. News today.
A South American shipyard has canceled a contract to build three LNG carriers for the future Arctic LNG-2 project. Problems with new tankers for the export of LNG to Russia from the Arctic can be a lot at the Zvezda shipyard, experts say. Since the West has introduced and gas liquefaction projects are at least being delayed, the alarming company will no longer have so many gas carriers in the coming years, they assume.
South Korean Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has announced that it has canceled a contract to build three Arc7 gas carriers for a European shipowner, TradeWinds reported. Sources of Kommersant confirmed that these are tankers for the second Arctic project, Arctic LNG-2, ordered by Sovcomflot. A rescission found in the DSME that the payment for the construction of one tanker was worth more than $280 million.
Under this contract, they plan to terminate all three tankers, Kommersant’s interlocutor said. delay in payment, as well as termination of the contract, can be assigned to Sovcomflot.
“In principle, everything is logical, what is happening with the South Korean contracts. Three tankers from Sovcomflot and three more gas carriers from another structure (Japanese MOL) have been ordered there. And now the question arises, how many LNG carriers will Novatek need to export LNG from the Arctic LNG-2 project, the future capacity of which is now unclear due to the decision, ”says a leading analyst at the National Energy Security Fund (FNEB) and expert of the Financial University under the Government of Russia Igor Yushkov. He said that the second and third phases of the Arctic LNG-2 in the current format and in the format that was announced would not be implemented.
“Because the supply of equipment for LNG plants to Russia is now prohibited. And the intrigue remains if Novatek can load the first stage of the Arctic-LNG 2. From China, it was possible to deliver all the modules to Murmansk, where they will be assembled, put on a platform and sent to the Gydan Peninsula, where the gas liquefaction plant will be located. It is obvious that Novatek calculates the first stage, and puts the second and third on pause. And, therefore, he will not need such a number of gas carriers to export products. It turns out that the capacity of the project will not be 20 million tons per year, but only 6.6 million tons,” explains Igor Yushkov.
Refusal of the South Korean shipyard from the construction of gas carriers for the Arctic LNG-2 is currently not a priority for the project to combat poverty, the analyst of FG Finam believes Sergey Kaufman. Another 15 LNG carriers are being built at the Russian shipyard Zvezda, meaning the crossing of part of the planned LNG volume will be for transportation, he says.
The problem is that the Zvezda shipyard also delivers ship sets from South Japan and the company simply assembles a tanker, Igor Yushkov notes.
“Whether South Korea will send ship kits to the Russian shipyard is also unclear, since large-scale sentences are now being carried out against the Russian judicial construction industry,” a leading FNEB analyst believes that three tankers are sent to South Korea and will gather at least twice on “Star”. , then this will be enough to serve the first stage of the Arctic LNG – 2.
Energy expert Alexander Sobko adds that under the current conditions, Zvezda may be focusing on solving this problem, given that China is also already qualified in building gas carriers.
“In addition, the rapid launch of transshipment on the Kamchatka Peninsula, with a constant load, reduces the number of Arctic tankers. Although, on the other hand, in the discovery of the investigation, more LNG will be sent to the eastern investment, ”says Alexander Sobko.
Meanwhile, Novatek said it plans to continue building LNG plants in Russia using domestic technologies and equipment.
“Now we are going to make a project… so that on the GBS (gravitational type foundations), which we are considering in Murmansk, link two lines. And that this production was 5 million tons. Pre-project work has begun. This will all be done on Russian equipment,” said the head of the company. Leonid Mikhelsonreports TASS.
Previously, Novatek used the domestic assembly “Arctic Cascade” on the fourth line of Yamal LNG with a capacity of about 1 million tons.
“We got a lot of headaches, about a year. But it is now working, completely made on Russian equipment,” said Leonid Mikhelson.
Energy expert Alexander Sobko notes that, probably, Novatek wants to test two medium-tonnage lines of 2.5 million tons at the Obsky GCC, and then, obviously, use Arctic LNG-2 on the remaining two trains.
“But it’s all a long time, and it’s not clear what will happen to the Arctic Cascade for 2.5 million tons, although there are no other options,” Alexander Sobko concludes.
Meanwhile, the Russian government does not change the forecast for LNG production by 2035 and its growth to 140 million tons per year is maintained.
“We are not adjusting the LNG target yet. We are working to implement the figures that we declare in the strategic plan, even taking into account the fact that these will be Russian technologies. Accordingly, the adopted program is confident in the development of Russian technologies, I am sure that it will be implemented, there is nothing complicated there,” the Deputy Prime Minister said. Alexander Novak.
