Good Morning Moldova has completed the Health Caravan, a project designed to help people in need in rural communities.
The Better project – Healthy Caravan is part of the series of projects carried out by the association Good Day in the area of Moldova. Together with MedLife, the Bethany Foundation and generous people, Zi de Bine Moldova managed to offer citizens from disadvantaged areas of Iasi and Vaslui access to specialized medical services.
For 6 days, the Health Caravan offered specialized medical services for people in difficulty from 23 villages in Iași and Vaslui counties. It was stationed in the communes of Movileni, Vladeni and Puiești, where the partners from the Bethany Foundation indicated a real need for medical services. Doctors consulted more than 100 people, among whom they discovered several pathologies: heart disease, diabetes, hypertension, branch blocks and extrasystoles, hepatic steatosis, hepatic, renal and ovarian cysts, renal microlithiasis, hemangiomas, anemia, dyslipidemia.
Most of the conditions discovered are chronic or require specialized medical interventions to be treated. But, discovered in time, they would have had a different path. The rural health system is often overwhelmed by health problems among locals. The main reason is their rather precarious or non-existent medical education. Ordinary people do not know what it means to prevent and increase special aid when the evolution of the disease is already at an extremely advanced stage, and medicines without a medical recommendation have not received a better call.
“The problems in rural communities are profound, it is often a domino effect. On the other hand, in many states there are no doctors or they are insufficient in terms of population. Although family doctors should do 90% prevention, they do not have time for this, because most people already come when they are very ill, so they have to treat them or refer them to specialists. But it is very difficult for them to go to the specialty, either because they do not have money, or because they have no one to leave their children, animals, etc. with. The family doctors do not say that people are not educated to go to the preventive doctor, they do not go even when they have a suffering, they treat it at home after the ear – with paracetamol often – and they come when the medical situation worsens “, mentions Melania Medeleanu, co-founder of Good Morning Association.
The medical situation in the local rural area has also attracted international attention. Journalists are interested in studying the causes and consequences of local actions in rural areas regarding their own health. Although this should take precedence, the rural mentality offers no other perspective: that of ordinary people, in order to take care of the well-being of families and the household, is above one’s own person. Along with the Healthy Caravan was Laura Ayad, a French journalist, reporter at cuej.info and Le Telegram, interested in documenting the medical situation of people in rural Romania and the reasons why things are so difficult in this area.
“The days spent in Movileni, Vladeni and Puiești found me in dire need of medical care in rural areas, where patients’ access to specialized investigations and consultations is very limited. I am glad that I can make such projects and initiatives and I hope that in the future we will reach more localities and as many people as possible “, says Alexandra Stelian, MedLife doctor from Caravan with Health..
The Good Day team, along with MedLife and the Bethany Foundation, discovered many life stories in addition to medical conditions. Some of these highlights: “Nea Grigore, a 71-year-old man from Puiești, a very cheerful man, made all kinds of jokes. He was diagnosed with diabetes. He left the Caravan saying that he had become a director and an engineer. He was still joking, but he was visibly affected”does not tell a volunteer story.
Caravan with Health was a more than welcome initiative among rural communities, but it did not succeed. In 6 days of Caravan, Good Morning made many people better, but it would take a constant effort to be able to notice a change for the better in the health of people in rural communities. For this reason, we need the help of those who want to be part of this change.
Those who want to support additional projects to be carried out by the Goodbye Association, can do so by sending an SMS with the text UP to 8845. More methods of involvement can be found here: https://www.zidebine.ro/doneaza.
The purpose of the Good Morning Association is to create communities, to support thousands of people in vulnerable situations and to create notoriety around ignored causes. The association will support one NGO each month of the year. Each cause selected by the Goodbye Association is addressed to a community and implemented with the help of a local NGO.
The mechanism of operation is simple: at the beginning of each month, the cause will be announced and the need and beneficiaries will be described. At the end of the month, donors will find out what happened to the money and will be invited to see the outcome of their involvement.
In the two years of existence, the Association has already implemented over 30 projects in areas such as education, health, social inclusion, worth over 2,000,000 euros.
