Corruption among prosecutors, judges and lawyers is the most serious problem of the system, says the head of the anti-corruption prosecutor’s office in Chisinau, Veronica Dragalin. Three files in the name of lawyers and prosecutors accused of having claimed and offered bribes in the amount of between 5,000 and 30,000 euros have been sent to court in recent months by the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. At the same time, an officer from the National Anticorruption Center (CNA) was sentenced in the first instance to three and a half years in prison for influence peddling. He had received 100,000 euros claiming that he could influence a case pending at the CNA and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office, said Veronica Dragalin, listing only a few cases that the institution she manages has worked on, according to Agerpres.

“It has come to be said that all prosecutors and judges are corrupt. In order to have a “correct justice in this country, we all have to contribute, not to tolerate corruption and interference in the justice system”, Veronica Dragalin also said.

The punishment provided by law in the Republic of Moldova for a prosecutor or judge accused of passive corruption or accepting a bribe to influence an investigation is from seven to 15 years in prison, fines from 400 to 500,000 Moldovan lei and the ban from holding office . publish up to 15 years.
