The Legal Committee and the Foreign Policy Committee of the Romanian Senate, as well as similar committees of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, met in Iasi on May 19-21, on which occasion a joint statement was adopted on Friday in support of the Republic of Moldova. . in the process of European integration, reports Agerpres.
Following the signing of these joint statements, the President of the Legal Commission of the Romanian Senate, Iuliana Scântei, stated that this moment is particularly important, because the European integration of the Republic of Moldova is an “irreversible path”.
“The joint statement highlighted issues related not only to foreign policy, diplomatic support of the Republic of Moldova for full integration into the European Union, but also issues related to domestic policy and improving and consolidating stability and providing a plus and of a. to help those in Chisinau to raise living standards and prosperity, as needed on both sides of the Prut. It is a symbolic statement, which reaffirms our political commitment, as parliamentarians, senators, representatives in the Romanian Senate, the commitment of support and continuity in these efforts that we have to bring together to achieve common goals, especially now, in this geopolitical context marked by the conflict in Ukraine “, said the senator Iuliana Scântei.
The Vice President of the Romanian Senate, Robert Cazanciuc, declared, in his turn, that Romania has always helped the Republic of Moldova and that “from the beginning of every road traveled by Romania to the European Union, the Republic of Moldova wants this road as well”.
“Romania has been the lawyer of the Republic of Moldova in all European capitals, in order to support this European path. There are things that the officials do at the central level, there are things that a lot of central authors do to support locally in the Republic of Moldova and there are things that we can each do, I think, talking and doing things together with our brothers. “, Cazanciuc specified.
The Chair of the Foreign Policy and European Integration Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Doina Gherman, points out that the joint state declaration is an example of solidarity and unconditional support from him.
“I appreciate and thank you for the opportunity of this joint meeting. Even though we live in some absolutely confusing and dramatic times, we do not know that we are not alone. Romania has been and is always by its side. Obviously, Romania has a strong voice, a voice that can be heard in the EU. That is why it cannot help our voice to be heard more in the European Union “, said Doina Gherman.
The chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Romanian Senate, Titus Corlățean, stressed that a process of integration into the European Union “means efforts, reforms, a lot of work, expertise and allocated resources”.
“But it means in the last resort, and this is the element that makes the difference, political decision, political support for a state that friends will get the status of candidate, it means supporters of the European Union,” Corlățean mentioned.
He assured that Romanian parliamentarians and politicians will strongly support the Republic of Moldova in its integration into the Union, as, in turn, Romania was supported by politicians from partner countries when it was a candidate for EU membership.
“Romania has worked and is working on this permanently, knowing how we did when we were a candidate state, how we worked with partner states that supported us (…). This is what I did for years in a group of European friends for the Republic of Moldova. The decision is political. No matter how hard you try to invest resources, if the political doors do not open, that work will continue without reaching the goal “, explained Titus Corlățean.
Deputy Alexandru Muraru, PNL national vice president and PNL leader Iasi, said that at present there is no other EU state to help a state outside the Union as the Romanian government does in the case of Moldova’s integration process.
“Today, Iași gave an extremely strong signal, not only symbolic. What happened today in Iasi announces a unique joint meeting in the history of relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania. Basically, today in Iași a sufficiently strong and important instrument was activated, namely the parliamentary side “, said Alexandru Muraru.
