One hundred and seventieth anniversary of the Police, the program of celebrations
The State Police celebrates today, April 12, the 170th anniversary of its foundation.
At 9.30 am, there will be a commemoration of the Fallen with the deposition of a laurel wreath by the Questore Pietro Milone, at the Cippo of the gardens of “La Lizza”, in the presence of the Prefect Maria Forte.
Following, the actual ceremony, at 11.00, in the Sala Italo Calvino of the Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex. After reading the good wishes from the President of the Republic, the Minister of the Interior and the Chief of Police – Director General of Public Security Police, the Quaestor of the Province of Siena, Pietro Milone, will speak.
The awards for service merit will be delivered during the ceremony, including a commendation and 7 honors, farewell medals to retired staff and other certificates to schools and to a citizen distinguished for his high civic sense.
Outside, a representative array of all the components of the State Police of the Province was created, reviewed by the commissioner.
Also this year the theme is “Always Be There” and, for the occasion, two stands have been set up in the splendid setting of Piazza Duomo, with the display of some vehicles supplied to the State Police, and the work tools of the Police Scientific and Specialties, all in compliance with the provisions of the legislation on the prevention of contagion from Covid-19.
The ceremony is, in fact, an opportunity to remember the long history of the State Police, whose origins date back to 1852 when the Public Security Guard Corps was established.
