Bicycles, antiques and air rifles. In the last two years, Zdeněk Fukal and Petr Poula have taken these and other things from the eighty-eight houses, cellars and basements they broke into in Brno and the Brno region. The Municipal Court in Brno had previously sentenced them to four years and ten months, or four years behind bars.

On Tuesday, the Brno Regional Court dealt with the recall of one of the victims of the burglary. The injured party did not agree with the part granted to him by the lower court. Fukal’s lawyer Tomáš Rotrekl disagreed with the proposal. “The appeal should be dismissed. At the time when the things were stolen, they already had a different value than when they were bought, “he said.
Prosecutor Milena Hojovcová also had a similar opinion. She mentioned that the city court had ruled correctly and the appeal was unfounded. At that time, he awarded the injured man compensation of thirty-five thousand crowns, and he received another eighty-five thousand from the insurance company.

However, the man asked the regional court for compensation in the amount of 216 thousand directly from Fukal, who committed the theft without his partner. “The appeal is dismissed, the court of first instance ruled correctly, did not err in the process,” said Judge Vlastimír Čech.
The injured party can still turn to civil proceedings.
The duo of thieves used the covida pandemic during the burglary. In particular, they relied on the limited movement of people at night. They also abused the obligation to wear veils and respirators in public. They covered their faces with them in an effort to make their identification on the camera difficult. In addition, Fukal had been convicted of theft before, so he received a higher sentence.
