Venice falls at home to Valencia in game-1 of the quarter-finals – OA Sport
Reyer Venezia’s path in the quarter-finals of the EuroCup 2022 is complicated. The Venetian team was defeated at home in Game-1 by the Spanish side of Valencia 61-57. Fatal a terrible third quarter (6-20) for Reyer, for which Kayla Bonica Thornton’s 19 points were not enough. Among the Spaniards, however, the best were Angela Salvadores and Celeste Trahan-Davis, both scores 12 points. On Sunday there will be game-2 with Venice forced to hit the outside.
Excellent start from Venice with Ndour signing the initial 6-0. Reyer dominates in the first five minutes and touches +11 with Thornton’s basket (15-4). The Venetians also arrive on +14 and close the first quarter ahead of 20-8. Valencia, however, reacts early in the second quarter and also arrives on -4 with Salvadores’ triple (23-19). Reyer tries a new extension with Bestagno and at half-time Venezia is ahead 37-28.
It restarts according to the time and unfortunately Venice seems to remain in the changing rooms. Valencia dominates and builds a 11-2 run which completely overturns the inertia of the match. Reyer he only scores six points in the third quarter and Valencia enters the last ten minutes forward five points (48-43). Guelich brings the Spaniards to +9 and Venice seems to be on the verge of collapsing. Reyer manages to react and arrives at -4 with Thornton’s three-point play. Again the American signs the overtaking (57-56), but on the other side comes Allen’s triple for the new overtaking. Bestagno misses the shot of the new +1 and Trahan-Davis signs the victory from the line.
