VNF invests €55 million in the Nord – Pas-de-Calais navigation basin
After investing nearly €29 million in 2020 and €58 million in 2021, Voies navigables de France (VNF) is devoting a record budget of nearly €55 million in 2022, including €6 million under the recovery plan, to maintenance, modernization and development of its infrastructure in the Nord – Pas-de-Calais navigation basin. This investment will thus make it possible to improve the quality of the service offered by the establishment, to support the development of river transport, to support the development and attractiveness of the territory through river tourism, and the management water and biodiversity. This budget is made possible thanks to the increase in the allocation granted to rivers in the State budget and to the co-financing of river projects by the European Union and local authorities, in particular the Hauts-de-France Region.
“This investment has supported VNF’s illustrious desire to support the strong dynamic of river transport in our region. The Seine-Escaut project, which will restore navigation, modernize and increase the size of nearly 1,100 km of navigable waterways between the Seine basin and the ports of Dunkirk and Northern Europe, is the main axis, says Marie-Céline Masson, regional director Nord – Pas-de-Calais of VNF.
