INFOGRAPHICS. Crime figures in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais
As on a national scale, the trend is upward in both departments, unlike the two previous years.
Change of gear in 2022. After two years of decline, in a context of health crisis, crime indicators are distributed upwards in France over the past year. This is provided by the figures compiled by the Statistical Service of the Ministry of the Interior (SSMSI).
With the exception of violent unarmed robberies, the overwhelming share of crimes and misdemeanors jumped in 2022. Domestic violence, for example, climbed 17% in one year, against 11.4% for sexual violence. Figures to be replaced in a period of free speech, however note the SMSSI.
Among the other crimes and misdemeanors in strong growth: intentional blows and wounds outside the family framework (+14%) or scams (+8%).
A reflection of the national trend
What about in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais? Overall, the figures observed followed the national trend, with most indicators experiencing an increase in the Nord and Pas-de-Calais, apart from armed robberies, which remained stable.
There is thus an 8.1% increase in sexual violence, even if it is less than at the national level. On the other hand, the Nord and the Pas-de-Calais are the two departments where the increase in the number of victims of domestic violence is the most marked.
In the North, the Ministry of the Interior notes a 13% increase in the number of victims of intentional assault and battery. Thefts without violence also rose by 14%, one of the most significant increases in France. If destruction and degradation are over-represented in the category of offenses (more than 25,000 in one year), they tend to decrease.
13,000 voluntary destructions in Pas-de-Calais
The department is also distinguished by an increase in thefts of accessories from vehicles, estimated at nearly 49% (6,070 cases in 2022, against 4,087 the year before). This same offense also monopolizes the peaks of delinquency in Pas-de-Calais, with a link of 31.6% in one year.
The crime landscape is relatively similar in this department. Thefts without violence exploded by more than 25%, as did domestic violence (+28.6%). Voluntary destruction and damage are also very present: more than 13,000 in the space of one year (+4.2%).
Conversely, home burglaries (-1.4%) and drug trafficking are becoming rarer (-9%), as are car thefts (-8.1%).
