Delegates of the International Athletics Association impressed by the preparations for the World Cup in Budapest
The delegation of the International Athletics Association (WA) visited Budapest this week to review the preparations for the 2023 World Outdoor Championships together with the Hungarian organizing committee and, as reported in a joint announcement by WA and the Budapest 2023 World Athletics Championships, Jon Ridgeon, the head of the delegation was satisfied with what he had seen and experienced.
“I was impressed by the organizing committee’s passion and vision for the event,” he was quoted as saying in Friday’s communiqué. The CEO of the international federation especially liked that the organizers would also use the World Cup to encourage a whole generation of young people to athletics and follow the sport.
Members of the international delegation toured the new National Athletics Center, which Ridgeon said was an event, both scheduled for the World Championships and as an athletics venue following the event. The stadium will be completed by March 2023, and three test events will be held before the World Cup, including the Gyulai István Memorial – Hungarian Grand Prix in Athletics.
The delegation set up detailed schedules agreed with the organizers, and the WA delegation also looked at the marathon and walking routes, and then partly on the banks of the Danube and touched the sights of Budapest.
At the end of the visit, Jon Ridgeon said: “Organizing a World Athletics Championships is a difficult task. Budapest will be an extremely exciting venue in August 2023, and we are looking forward to a great world championship. ”
Péter Deutsch, CEO of Budapest 2023 Zrt., Said that the international federation and the Hungarian organizing committee are preparing for the World Cup by forming a unified team.
