- On February 1, a bill came into force in Russia aimed at combating fakes and prohibited content on social networks. Now social networks must independently block materials with pornographic images of minors; information that inclines to committing danger to life and illegal actions; advertising of distance selling of alcohol and online casinos. The new bill has already led to heavy turnover fines for Google and Facebook, which did not remove prohibited content and violated the rules for access to prohibited information.
- Since March 1, the Russians will legally demand the removal of their data from the pages of Internet resources. The law is aimed at combating the collection of confidential information on the Internet and its further dissemination for various illegal purposes. The author of the bill, Deputy Anton Gorelkin, notes that the new law allows Russian users to fully control their project data.
- From April 1, all smartphones, laptops, computers and tablets sold in Russia require domestic software. This step is part of the import substitution policy and promotes the domestic IT industry. The law is also aimed at combating the monopolization of software products by foreign IT giants.
- From April 30, online advertising producers have also published to publish public service announcements. The Ministry of Digital Industry of the Russian Federation began to appoint special agents from among non-profit organizations that collect information on the volume and format of advertising posted on the Internet. Based on this data, the operators provide various Internet resources to place socially significant advertisements.
- On June 15, the State Duma of the Russian Federation began to consider a bill on new ways to combat pirated content on the Internet. It is assumed that Roskomnadzor will keep a register of Internet pages with content that violates copyright. Pages that are deleted in the Roskomnadzor database will be deleted from all search engines within six hours.
- On July 1, a law was passed on the so-called “landing” of foreign Internet giants. Now all foreign Internet resources with a daily audience of more than 500 thousand people demand to open their official representative office in Russia. Failure to comply with this requirement is subject to a fine and blocking on the territory of the Russian Federation.
- On September 1, the Alliance for the Protection of Children in the Digital Environment was formed in Russia, which will allow IT companies to create effective tools to counter digital threats to children. Director of the regional public center for Internet technologies Rustam Sagdatulin expressed hope that in the near future foreign IT giants will also join the alliance.
Earlier, during his final press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that “everything that happens on the Internet should be the general rule.” So he answered a question about protecting children from dangerous content.
