CDU Hannover mourns: Brigitte Ike has died
She was an advocate for social justice, down to earth, honest and authoritative. Brigitte Ike, former councilwoman, district councilwoman and honorary chairwoman of the CDU local association Südstadt, died surprisingly on Thursday. Ike was 81 years old.
Two terms in the Council
Ike was a member of the state capital’s council for two terms from November 2001 to October 2011. “She was always a persevering, focused on the issue,” says the CDU parliamentary group leader, Felix Semper. As a former head of nursing, the role of spokeswoman in the social committee was tailor-made for her, emphasizes Semper. She was also a strong voice in the Migration Committee and the Equal Opportunities Committee. “We are deeply affected and infinitely sad,” said the group leader.
With Ike, the CDU in Hanover is losing an “overly committed member”, says CDU chairman Maximilian Oppelt. Her vote had weight and she gave weight to the Christian Democracy in Hanover. “Ike has always stood up for social justice with a passion,” says Oppelt. The whole city is losing “a lovable and valued local politician and a dear friend.”
“District deeply shaped”
Jesse Jeng, chairman of the CDU local association Südstadt, Kochfeld Brigitte Ike’s deep connection with the district. They are held in high regard by political competitors and fellow citizens. “It has had a profound impact on our urban district,” he emphasizes. As honorary chairwoman of the local association and district councilwoman, she was a great support for Jeng personally. “We are losing a real Südstadt woman who we will never forget.”
