Prague – Minister of the Interior Vít Rakušan (STAN), after a meeting with the outgoing police president Jan Švejdar, stated that they had agreed in cooperation in the remaining three months until Švejdar’s resignation. He also said that the new head of the choir would emerge from the tender, or subsequently from the tender. Svejdar told reporters that he was leaving because he did not want to block negotiations between the Ministry of the Interior and the police.
Švejdar confirmed to the Austrian his decision to apply for dismissal on March 31, which he announced in mid-December twitter. At the time, the police president wrote that he had come to the conclusion that his tenure was not desirable. He announced the announcement after meeting with the Austrian – who was not yet appointed minister at the time – in early December. The minister subsequently refused to put pressure on Švejdar to leave. However, he admitted that they did not agree on some issues.
Now the Austrian said at a press conference that they had agreed on a “highly professional” cooperation with Švejdar. “The police do not deserve destabilization now, they do not deserve any media shootings, they do not deserve any messages through the media between the Ministry of the Interior and the police presidium. On the contrary, the police deserve to address the current issues on the table,” he said.
Therefore, next or the following week, the Austrian plans to get acquainted with these problems with the help of Švejdar at the police presidium. He also asked the outgoing church leader to present him with a working version of the proposed policy reform.
“The first meeting – even though the Minister was not yet in office – I am briefly thinking on December 7. I understood from the Minister’s statement that the current government also wants a change in the position of Police President,” Švejdar told reporters at the police presidium in his own statement. .
“I myself have decided to end my employment because I believe that the time that awaits the Police of the Czech Republic will not be easy at all. And I just do not want my person to block negotiations between the ministry and the police and I do not want to be an excuse to that the police will be dishonored in some way, “he added.
At the same time, he confirmed that he had agreed in fact with the Austrian on standard cooperation. “I believe it will be so,” he concluded.
The first phase of the selection of Švejdar’s entry will be, in accordance with the law, a tender procedure, which concerns members of the security forces included in the 11th grade, as well as members of the intelligence services. If the candidates cannot be found this way, a selection process for the position of police president will follow. The Austrian mentioned that he sees four or five people in the ranks of the police who, according to him, were able to manage. He did not want to mention specific names, according to him it could be a “kiss of death”.
The topic that the Austrians and Švejdar addressed at today’s meeting was the vaccination of police officers. Last November, Švejdar said that in connection with the compulsory vaccination, the police could lose up to 10,000 people who still refuse vaccination against covid-19. The Austrian then announced that he wanted to use a questionnaire survey to specify how the police refused the vaccination and why. Svejdar has now assured him that the vaccination coverage of the police force is still rising, the Austrian said. He promised Švejdar that he would invite him to prepare the relevant decree, which the new version is preparing for healthcare. He also stressed that the specific provisions of this decree are not yet known.
