It is necessary to ensure the development and improvement of technological competencies in the field of genetics and other life sciences. This will make it possible to create products demanded by the market, including funds for the prevention and treatment of new infectious diseases. This was announced by Yelena Shmeleva, head of the United Russia commission on education and science, co-chairman of the All-Russia People’s Front Central Headquarters, with President Vladimir Putin, the United Russia press service reported.

It is important, according to her, to provide Russian products with such characteristics that allow them to quickly scale up their production and enter the world market.

For this, it is necessary to activate educational programs and create new professional development programs. Shmeleva also noted the importance of the systematic provision of Russian scientists with the materials necessary for genetic research, including through the localization of the production of critical equipment and materials.

In this regard, the legal and regulatory framework is of no small importance. For example, mechanisms are needed through which personalized therapy products can be applied in medical research centers. This would allow for early access to medication through medium breakthrough efficacy.

“We will discuss all these issues at the site of the United Russia General Council Commission on Education and Science, we will devote this special meeting and develop proposals for the development of state policy in the field of genetic technologies,” said Shmeleva.

At a meeting with the President, held the day before, the progress in the implementation of the Federal Scientific and Technical Program for the Development of Genetic Technologies until 2027 was discussed.

Addressing the meeting participants, Putin noted that legislation in the field of genetics should open up scope for scientific research and the creation of innovations, but at the same time it is necessary to clearly define the limits of the permissible use of genetic technologies.
