In the Bryansk, Tomsk, Smolensk, Kursk, Chelyabinsk, Novgorod regions, the weekend will last a few more days, but no longer than a week. This step will help reduce the burden on medical facilities and the number of people infected with coronavirus due to reduced contact between people.
The non-working days, announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin, ended in the country on the night of November 8. At the same time, the right to make a decision on their extension was given to each region.
The governor of the Kursk region, Roman Starovoit, previously explained the decision to extend the non-working days by the fact that there was a shortage of oxygen for covid hospitals in the region at the level of about six tons per day.
They are also introduced in eight municipalities of the Irkutsk region, including in the city of Irkutsk itself. There, the authorities decided to extend school holidays due to the increase in the number of children with COVID-19.
Moscow and the Moscow region considered that the situation related to the coronavirus pandemic had stabilized. However, a number of restrictions will continue to apply in the capital. In particular, preferential and free travel on public transport will be suspended for citizens observing the home regime. This group of people with chronic diseases includes Muscovites over 60 years old, as well as those who have not been vaccinated and have not been sick with COVID-19 over the past six months. In addition, theaters and museums can only be visited upon presentation of a QR code.
On November 5, a member of the Federation Council, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation Vladimir Krugly expressed the opinion that it would be reasonable to extend the federal non-working day regime in Russia for at least another week.
In turn, epidemiologist, candidate of medical sciences Alexander Vygonaylov points out that it will be possible to assess the effectiveness of the non-working days only next week, according to the federal headquarters for combating COVID-19. “I’ll have to look. First of all, the number of hospitalizations, the level of morbidity itself, ”he said, adding that it is too early to give an estimate.
In addition, he began, the Russians have only recently been massively vaccinated. “We must remember that the population turned to vaccination only a couple of weeks ago, they have not yet received the second dose of vaccination, so it is too early to talk about the effectiveness of vaccination,” he added.
In Russia, over the past day, 39 165 new cases of coronavirus were detected. The anti-proliferation operational headquarters reported that a cumulative total of 8,795,095 people were registered in the country in 85 regions. Over the past 1179 deaths were recorded.
