A new Greek Catholic church is consecrated in Joshua
Debrecen – The foundation stone of the church was laid in October 2020 and the new Greek Catholic spiritual residence in Debrecen was built in less than a year.
Last year, the National Ruthenian Self-Government and the Archdiocese of Hajdúdorog signed a cooperation agreement for the construction of a wooden church. The walls of the church are covered with circular wood paneling, the top is covered with larch shingles.
The total investment cost HUF 110 million. The church will be consecrated by Archbishop Metropolitan Philip Kocsis on Sunday, November 7.
The ceremony will be greeted later by Zoltán Fürjes, Deputy State Secretary for Church and Ethnic Relations, Mayor László Papp, Viktor Kramarenko, President of the National Ruthenian Self-Government.
The Ruthenian municipality received a total of HUF 50 million in support for the construction. The Archdiocese stood for the remaining amount of construction. The completed church was built in Transylvania and then brought to Józsa in pieces.
