A new variant of the coronavirus AY.4.2 has been identified in Russia. This was announced by Kamil Khafizov, head of the group for scientific development of new methods for diagnosing human diseases at the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, reports RIA News…
Khafizov said that the typicality has already been found in isolated cases on Russian territory. He explained that AY.4.2 is just one of many delta line branches that may have some advantages over the original and other versions of the virus. It is difficult to say how much more infectious this strain is, the expert added.
At the same time, a specialist in the world that the probability of the AY.4.2 variant spreading in Russia is “sufficient”. However, he added that experts do not believe the subline is responsible for the large number of daily cases of COVID-19 infection in different countries.
On October 19, it became known that a new form of coronavirus began to spread in the UK. Experts suggest the AY.4.2 strain may be the most contagious form detected since the start of the pandemic.
It was reported that the new variation of the coronavirus is observed only in the UK, where about 10 percent of all patients with COVID-19 in the country were infected with it. However, a case of AY.4.2 has already been reported in Israel, as well as in the United States.
