Premiere! Mikulášovice will connect a direct train with Prague during the tourist season
The first Lužickohorský express train, which will be operated by KŽC, will leave Prague on Sunday 18 April in the morning, arrive in Krásná Lípa shortly before half past one and at 13.09 will be at its final station in Mikulášovice. “Our firefighters will prepare the first train of the water gate, and representatives of the Ústí nad Labem and Liberec regions will be on site to support the new connection,” said the mayor of Krásná Lípa and the chairman of the Association for the Development of the Šluknov Region, Jan Kolář.
According to him, the new expressway connects to the National Park Track, which connects Czech and Saxon Switzerland with Děčín and offers easy connections to Liberec. This has been extended to Prague since Sunday. “For us, this is a chance that the train will bring more visitors to the region, who do not necessarily use individual transport. This is a growing need for a problem. It will also help to preserve and revive the track through Panský to Mikulášovice, “outlined expectations from the Kolář express.
In such a case, they will strive in the Šluknov region to ensure that the Lužickohorský express train also runs on Friday, so that tourists from Prague can spend the whole weekend in the region.
For the first time in history, the train will connect Prague with Macha Lake, Českolipsko, Lužické Mountains and Bohemian Switzerland. The set will cover a total of 202 days, which it can complete in 4 hours and 21 minutes. “The new expressway will connect these traditional holiday destinations. It will obligatorily enable a considerable number of wheels and a bar car will be included in the car, “described Bohumil Augusta from KŽC. The classic set with a locomotive and historic wagons will run on weekends throughout the tourist season until the end of October.
It is the tourists from the metropolis that should be mostly the ones who will use the new Lužickohorský express train. “The greatest credit for the launch goes to the Railway Travelers Club, headed by Mr. Augusta. I had the idea of a similar connection for several years. He embodied this idea and last year he started operating a train from Prague to Bezděz, which this year extended to us, “explained Jiří Rak from the non-profit company České Švýcarsko, which has long been concerned with destination management.
This is not the first direct connection with Prague for the Šluknov region. Decades ago, direct express trains ran from Rumburk via Děčín to the metropolis. The connection did not last long then. For the western part of the promontory, led by Mikulášovice, it will be a traffic premiere on Sunday. Until now, it was impossible to travel to Prague from this part of the region without a transfer. “Behind the First Republic, the express train ran from Rumburk to Prague via Mladá Boleslav, ie on the same line as the Lužickohorský express train. It is spicy that trains from Berlin to Vienna were run on this line at regular times, which was supposed to be faster than the connection via Prague, “Jiří Rak explained part of the railway history of the Šluknov region.
