People are furious! Praguers can run all over the city, we can’t even take a few steps from the house
These days, Prague has become a thorn in the side of many Czechs. They are furious and envious of Praguers that they can move around several times larger area than people from small villages. Prague is considered as a whole – the municipality and the district at the same time.
“The whole of Prague is a municipality, district and region at the same time, so you can work, walk or run across city districts without proving it,” the mayor of Prague Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) published on his Facebook. People from smaller villages thus began to rage under this status. And not just you. The opportunity to move freely throughout the territory of Prague also upset some native Praguers, such as Tomáš Lapčák.
“So a million Praguers can basically do whatever they want and some poor man from Horní Dolní can’t even take a few steps from the house. Another reason the rest of the republic will” love “us,” he said. Lucie Braunová from Nýrsko also agrees with him. “Really great. We can’t go for a walk from village to village with us, even if we meet 1-2 people, while in Prague it will be head to head. Just because the cadastre.”
People were mainly upset by the fact that although there are a total of 57 city districts in Prague that could be considered as independent municipalities, this is not the case and Prague is one “big municipality”. People from one part of the city can go playing sports or on a trip to the most remote part of Prague, quite legally. At the same time, from Újezd nad Lesy, which lies in the eastern part of Prague, it is a direct route over 30 kilometers to Ruzyně, located in the west. However, some residents of small villages can go jogging in the fields behind the barracks.
The inhabitants of Prague have less than 500 km available for sports or walks. While the inhabitants of the smallest municipality in the Czech Republic – Závist (Blansko district) – have only 0.42 km². And that’s a big difference. However, the inhabitants of Brno can also rejoice. As of Monday, they are merged as one district of Brno-město and Brno-venkov. For example, people from the center of Brno can legally go shopping in a popular shopping center, which is located in the Brno-venkov district.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the government has significantly reduced the movement of people to three weeks since Monday. For example, an employer certificate is now required to travel to work outside the district. Shopping is only possible within the district. The new measures will mostly affect walks and outdoor sports, they are newly allowed only within the municipality, not the district.
