The 2022 Caregiver of the Year awards were presented yesterday in the historic premises of Novoměstská Town Hall. The survey is organized annually by Diakonie ČCE, one of the most important providers of social services in the Czech Republic, in cooperation with the Association of Social Service Providers.
The goal of the National Award is to support you, to start helping, the task is to care and be needed. Every year, extraordinary, dedicated and responsible social service workers are nominated for individual awards.
The award is given in four categories: outpatient services, field services, residential services and manager of the year. The public can then award the Public Award in an online vote.
The finalists and winners of each of the five categories are selected annually by a commission made up of experts from the social field. “Work in social services, especially in helping professions, is one of the most demanding and necessary at the same time. Appreciating the most self-sacrificing caregivers, social service workers or social workers is the least we can or rather must do for them. It is an annual tribute to those whom society sometimes forgets and does not realize the demandingness, necessity and necessity of their work,” said Jiří Horecký, president of the Association of Social Service Providers.
Among the guests was the mayor of the second city district, Alexandra Udženia, who presented one of the awardees, Kateřina Přibylové from the Center for Social Services of Prague 2, with the prize for winning in the social worker category.

“As a politician who has been in charge of the social sector since 2015, I know very well what the work of a carer entails. It’s work with the heart, it’s also caring for the souls of the most vulnerable, which is sometimes the most important thing,” said Mayor Uženia. “This event is very important for Prague 2, the patron was, for example, Livia Klausová, today it is Markéta Pekarová Adamová. It can be seen that we all appreciate the work done by our social workers,” the mayor continued.
“I take Kateřina Přibylová’s award as confirmation that here at Dvojka we still manage to maintain the highest level of care for the elderly. Kateřina is a long-time employee of our Social Services Center in Máchova Street. In previous years, the local home for the elderly received the Quality Mark title and is thus proof of the long-term high level of services provided. And it is primarily the merit of the management of the Center for Social Services Prague 2 and its staff. They all deserve a big thank you for the work they do,” added Udzhenija.
“We nominated our colleagues for her professional, above all human qualities. He is part and support of our team. I am very happy that she has won this prestigious award and with this individual success has expanded the awards we receive for our services. I thank Katerina and everyone else for creating an environment in which we can provide services at a high level,” said Martina Polanská, director of the Center for Social Services Prague 2. It is precisely in the complexity of the wide spectrum of social services provided that Prague 2 is exceptional.
This is not the first time that the title is heading to the Center for Social Services Prague 2. In 2015, the center received the title of Caregiver of the Year in the category of ambulatory social services – day care center and in the category of residential social services. Two years later, in 2017, the title of Caregiver of the Year in the residential social services category was awarded to the head of direct care from the Máchova Home for the Elderly. The Center for Social Services Prague 2 is the holder not only of individual awards, but also of the quality of services provided. Five stars as part of the Mark of Quality award in previous years were awarded to both seniors’ homes and the care service, which was the first to achieve this success in Prague.
“Caregivers are our unsung heroes. They live among us without us mostly knowing about their daily lives and getting to know their destinies. And that is exactly what the Caregiver of the Year survey is trying to change, which has been highlighting and appreciating the difficult and at the same time necessary work of professionals in social services and their life stories for ten years, and thereby showing everyone their appreciation for their selfless work,” said the Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies, Markéta Pekarová Adamová (TOP 09).
