Russia must leave South Ossetia and Abkhazia as part of a settlement agreement with Ukraine
As part of a possible settlement within the framework of the conflict with Ukraine, Russia must leave not only Ukrainian territories, but also South Ossetia and Abkhazia. About it announced president president Georgia Salome Zurabishvili in an interview with Bloomberg.
“Russia must learn where its borders are. Georgian problems should be on the table, because no one should think that this war can be completed without the outcome of Russia with all the occupied territories,” Zurabishvili said.
If Russia, under the terms of the alleged surrender, does not completely withdraw its troops from all states of states, then “the Western world will make another big mistake – like in 2008, in 2014,” the President of Georgia believes.
According to Zurabishvili, Moscow has already identified a conflict situation among the military. “Russia is already practically including all the voices, if not at war,” she says.
- Georgia considers Abkhazia and South Ossetia to be its country, but de facto has not met them since the 1990s. In 2008, after the Russian-Georgian war, Moscow recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, as well as the equipment of its troops there.
- After the start of the military conflict in Ukraine, she did not join the sanctions against Russia.
- According to analysts, since earlier talk newspaper The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), Georgia may take control of South Abkhazia and South Ossetia against the background of the conflict in Ukraine.
