Trees on the train – almost 200 passengers trapped for hours
A tree falls on an express train coming from Italy near the Isenburger Schneise. Rescuing the passengers is difficult.
Frankfurt – At around 6:50 p.m. on Monday (January 30), an Italian express train was stopped two kilometers from Frankfurt Central Station at Isenburger-Schneise by a tree that had fallen in the overhead line. Fortunately, the train was no longer traveling at full speed when the tree fell on the catenary.
After the impact, the train drove about 200 m until it finally came to a standstill. The Deutsche Bahn emergency team was unable to eliminate the disruption on their own. Therefore, the Frankfurt fire brigade had to be alerted after a short time. With heavy equipment and a chainsaw, the emergency services removed the tree from the already de-energized overhead line. Around 180 passengers were forced to wait on the train because evacuation to the section of track was not possible. According to DB information, there is a 15 m deep slope just a few meters from the scene of the accident.
Tree falls on train: catenary damaged
The passengers on the train were looked after by federal police forces and railway employees, and an ambulance was provided as a precaution. The train could not continue under its own power because the overhead line was damaged. The wagons were heated by battery operation. At around 10:45 p.m., two of the best diesel locomotives arrived and pulled the damaged express train into Frankfurt Central Station. The stranded passengers were given overnight accommodation in nearby hotels, as it was no longer possible to continue the journey at night. DB currently does not know how badly the train and overhead lines are damaged.
The railway line 3651 Neu-Isenburg Frankfurt was closed for several hours. The Eurocity 52 was on its way from Milan to Frankfurt via Switzerland. (5VISION.NEWS/skr)
