That’s what the candidates say about mobility
The Frankfurter Rundschau asked the candidates for the mayor election in Frankfurt on March 5 what their positions on mobility were.
Manuela Rottmann: The Green candidate holds Frankfurt made to cope with everyday journeys on foot, in a wheelchair, by bicycle or by bus and train. Therefore, they are in favor of cycle paths and footpaths for the conversion of public space. At Frankfurt Airport, she also wants to avoid every avoidable flight and shift domestic German flights to the train. She thinks a 365-euro ticket in Frankfurt makes sense. The city should subsidize the 49-euro ticket for people on low incomes, so it only costs 25 euros. Rottmann agrees to the direct connection of the Westend campus when the U-Bahn line 4 is expanded. escape
Mike Joseph: The SPD candidate is committed to converting public space in favor of cycling and walking and at the expense of car traffic. Less through traffic and less commuter traffic from the surrounding area is needed. Nevertheless, the economy needs loading zones. At the airport, Josef advocates a ban on night flights from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Train journeys should replace domestic German flights. Josef wants to promote a 365-euro ticket in Frankfurt as an active contribution to climate protection. When expanding the U4 between Bockenheimer and Ginnheim, he is aiming to connect the Westend campus directly. escape
Uwe Becker: The CDU candidate is neutral on the question of whether the street space should be redesigned to favor cycling and pedestrian traffic. Cars should not be “steered into traffic jams”, even if the expansion of footpaths and cycle paths should continue to make sense. Becker also remains neutral on the question of whether the airport should handle fewer flights. He expects a further increase in medium and long-haul flights in the future. For short-haul flights, shifting to rail makes sense. Becker agrees to a 365-euro ticket in Frankfurt, as well as a seamless connection to the Westend campus when the 4th fle subway line is expanded
FR election workers
20 candidates join the Mayor election in Frankfurt on March 5th. In this article you will find the positions of the five applicants with the greatest chances of winning. But what about the others? What does Maja Wolff think about cultural politics, what is the opinion of Bahnbabo on the situation in the station district? And does the fictional character Prof. Dr. Bembel from the “party” about serious politics?
This question Answers the digital election assistant of the Frankfurter Rundschau. The candidates received 25 local political theses from us. For example: “Public space is to be remodeled: favoring cycling, walking and local transport and at the expense of car traffic” or “The municipal housing company ABG should strongly remind the rent for households that are entitled to social housing.” She should say yes to that , No or Neutral answer. They were also able to make a brief comment on the thesis.
The users can comment on these theses themselves and weight them twice if necessary. In the evaluation, they then find out to what extent their positions match the answers given by the individual candidates. FR

Daniela Mehler-Würzbach: The left candidate advocates the conversion of public space in favor of bicycle and pedestrian traffic. This leads to more mobility with less traffic and creates more space for people. An eight-hour ban on night flights and the shifting of short-haul flights to rail is one of the aims of Mehler-Würzbach. They would welcome a 365-euro ticket, but only as a first step towards zero fare for everyone. She believes that a direct connection to the Westend campus when the U4 is expanded makes sense. escape
Yanki Pursun: The FDP candidate does not think that public space should be remodeled to favor cycling and pedestrian traffic. In his view, no mode of transport should be preferred. Pursün doesn’t think it makes sense for the airport to handle fewer flights. The economic engine should not be weakened. Pürsün does not want to support a 365-euro annual ticket for local transport; the 49-euro ticket is already an inexpensive option. However, he is committed to connecting the Westend campus when expanding the U-Bahn line 4. (fle)
