Prosecutors request house arrest for Dodon, after the former president allegedly tried to reach Romania for “post-Covid-19 rehabilitation”
The former president of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon, risks returning to house arrest after the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office submitted a request to the Supreme Court of Justice on Thursday regarding the replacement of preventive measures not to leave the country, reports. open.md.
On January 19, Igor Dodon’s lawyers submitted a request to the court requesting approval for him to leave the Republic of Moldova, between January 28 and February 5, to undergo post-Covid-19 rehabilitation treatment in Romania, to his son. They have attached several documents that would confirm the need to travel abroad.
The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office specified that on January 25, the doctor whose number and first name was indicated in the medical document stated that he did not know the mentioned patient and that he would have applied the stamp on the Sent-Extract at the request of a colleague. According to the doctor, the request was made by a colleague who currently examines the Dodon family and who is in close relations with them, being the wife of a councilor from the Chisinau Municipal Council, a member of the factions of the party of which the defendant was also a part.
At the same time, according to the cited source, the procedures indicated in the referral do not need to be performed abroad, they are also available in the Republic of Moldova, being in the national clinical protocol regarding the treatment of the Covid-19 infection (medium severe form), there are no such recommendations.
Under these conditions, the prosecutors on Thursday seized documents and computer devices, and all actions will be examined through the lens of committing the crimes of making, possessing, selling or using official documents that grant rights.
