Prague hosted the oncology congress PragueONCO | PRAGUE | News
Oncology treatment is moving forward in leaps and bounds. Even Czech doctors can already use individual treatment for a specific type of tumor in a specific patient.
The most common malignant tumor in our country and in the world is breast cancer. It can also affect young women, who do not have to give up their dreams of motherhood even during the treatment of their disease.

Just like the treatment of malignant tumors, the prevention of their occurrence is also personalized. A foreign host from Great Britain brought the topic of risk reduction for incorrigible smokers to Prague.
” Life is complicated and people do strange things. We have to be able to work with it. When it comes to smoking, we should help patients to stop. For that, we have a smoking cessation center for them. But we also have to be able to accept that some will not stop smoking. And then what is better? To discourage them with the words “you keep smoking, you will die!”, or if it is enough for them that we together name the risk they are taking and that we try to reduce it?”
“With the use of modern technologies, we can also supply these people with nicotine, which they are addicted to, but which in itself is not life-threatening – and they do not have to inhale cigarette smoke because of it. Because devices in which tobacco is not burned, but only heated, produce, and that’s scientifically proven, at least 95% less harmful and cancer-causing substances. There’s still about a 5 percent risk compared to those who quit smoking altogether, but the reduction is considerable.”
This year’s PragueONCO once again confirmed that Czech oncology is at the level of the most advanced countries in the world, but also that people still make little use of existing screening programs and other prevention options, thanks to which they might not need oncological treatment at all.
