Russia may again become the leading gas supplier to the EU, analysts say
Russia may soon again become a gas exporter to the European market. This is stated in the Kept message “Analysis of the alleged trends and prospects for the development of Russian industry in the context of geopolitical turbulence.”
“There is an opinion that, despite the geopolitical conflict and a significant share of the Nord Streams, Russia may nevertheless return to its place as the leading supplier of gas to Europe in the future. This view was voiced by 40 participants in a survey conducted during an industry conference at the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies.
A similar opinion was expressed in January by the Minister of Energy of Qatar, Saad Sherida al-Kaabi. Analysts noted that there are important priorities: infrastructural and economic. To import liquefied gas, which is an alternative to pipeline gas, large-scale regasification capacities are needed. The cost of blue fuel, if delivered from the US and the Middle East, will exceed the contract prices of Gazprom.
Also in the calculation that when the volumes are restored for gas exports from Russia to Europe, this will help in establishing a gas hub in Turkey and expanding energy cooperation with the CIS countries.
