Medical deserts: when Dijon sends its doctors to Nevers by air

The first plane of the health link between Dijon, in Côte-d’Or, and Nevers, in Nièvre, takes off this Thursday, January 26 from Dijon-Longvic airport at 8 a.m., for a return at 6 p.m. On board, eight doctors (general practitioners but also cardiologists, gynecologists and pulmonologists) who will be able to reach the Nivernaise conurbation in 35 minutes, compared to 2.5 hours by train or car, in order to treat local patients, at the hospital or in the health centers of the city or the department. About twenty doctors accomplished until then the shuttle between the two cities of Burgundy passing by the massif of Morvan .
It was the mayor and president of the agglomeration of Nevers, Denis Thuriot, who had launched the initiative in the fall as a solution to the lack of candidate caregivers for the hospital and the agglomeration. “Today, we need 50 doctors and as many nurses,” he said on the eve of the launch of the operation. “It’s a way to strengthen the medical presence in Nièvre and to interest new caregivers.
