Strasbourg wins in Dijon and takes the lead of its group in the Champions League
Engaged in the same group in the Top 16 of the Champions League, Dijon and Strasbourg faced each other on Wednesday in Burgundy. A duel won by the SIG (85-72) which takes first place in the pool. In the FIBA Europe Cup, Cholet qualified for the quarter-finals.
Accustomed to the final phase of the Champions League, Strasbourg has taken a step towards a new appearance in the quarter-finals. The SIG won the Franco-French clash of Group I of the Top 16, Wednesday on the Dijon floor (85-72). Marcus Keene split 22 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the Alsatians, well supported by Paul Lacombe (18 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists) and DeAndre Lansdowne (18 points too).
In the lead by three points at the start of the last quarter (66-63, 30th), the SIG broke away for good in the last three minutes on a basket from Rodions Kurucs after an offensive rebound then two lay-ups from Lacombe and Keene. For Dijon, David Holston scored 19 points, in vain. Strasbourg takes alone head of group I with two wins in two matches ahead of the JDA and Hapoel Jerusalem (1 win).
Cholet qualified in the quarters of the C4The only French club committed to the FIBA Europe Cup (C4), Cholet holds its ticket to the quarter-finals. The Mauges club scored it by going to Craiova, in Romania (71-64). A difficult success acquired thanks to a well-distributed mark (six players with eight or more points). The Choletais are co-leaders of their group with Porto before the last day. To finish first, they will have to win against the Portuguese with a 22-point lead to erase the heavy defeat suffered outside (78-99).
