Andrei Spînu: The Republic of Moldova has gas and electricity to get through the winter. Together with Romania we are discussing the strategy for next year
Andrei Spînu told Digi24 that the Republic will spend this winter energy in Moldova from an energy point of view, because gas reserves are made, and electricity is ensured. The Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova added that he came to Bucharest on Wednesday to prepare together with Romania the supply strategy for the coming winter.
Andrei Spînu, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova: We have to say that we are already halfway through winter and we are quite well prepared in the gas supply segment, we managed to make reserves.
All of Europe has passed over the state of despair. We had a moment in the autumn of last year, in the months of November, December in particular, when the massive Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure began.
In November we had two blackout days, when we had massive disconnections from the electricity grid across the country.
When we do not forget the energy problem, we analyze it from two perspectives. On the one hand, there is the security of delivery, gas or electricity, to have, and the second important element is the tariff.
Even if we did not succeed on the first issue, to ensure gas and electricity for the citizens of the country, unfortunately the prices that were on the international markets were much too high for the payment capacity of many citizens.
Just one example – the gas tariff for citizens increased more than 7-8 times even, compared to the previous year. Electricity, likewise, has increased by more than 4 times. I managed to reduce it, but the facts are still big.
We’re definitely going through the winter, that’s why I’m in Bucharest today, to discuss how we can better prepare, together with Romania, for the next winter.
