Chief of the General Staff Gerasimov sparks new wave of Russian security outbreak
The plan for the construction and development of the Russian Armed Forces should be adjusted taking into account the new military security – NATO unification at the expense of Finland and Sweden and a “hybrid” war against Russia, informed Valery Gerasimov in an interview with Arguments and Facts. As directed, in response to these cases, the emergence of two new military districts (Moscow and Leningrad) and form three motorized rifle divisions in the Kherson and Zaporozhye parts and an army corps in Karelia.
According to Gerasimov, “The plan for the construction and development of the Russian Armed Forces can be adjusted in the face of a threat to the future security of the country.” “Today’s threat has become the aspirations of the North Atlantic Alliance to expand at the expense of Finland and Sweden, and also uses Ukraine as a tool for waging a hybrid war against our country,” the Chief of the General Staff said.
According to him, “in cases of neutralization,” the threats were included in the plans for making adjustments, which were approved by President Vladimir Putin at the expanded composition of the Defense Ministry collegium. The main changes are “the creation of the Moscow and Leningrad military districts, the formation of three motorized rifle divisions as part of combined arms formations in the Kherson and Zaporozhye fortresses, as well as an army corps in Karelia,” Gerasimov.
The chief of the General Staff and head of the “special operation” added that the purpose of such work is “to ensure guaranteed protection of the sovereignty and territorial territory of our country.” “There has never been such a level and broad views of modern Russia,” Gerasimov assessed the progress of the “special operation”. According to him, “practically the entire collective West” is opposed in Russia.
The interlocutor of the publication also noted that the system of mobilization training in the country “was not fully matched to the new modern economic relations.” According to Gerasimov, “I fixed everything on the go.” Valery Gerasimov was appointed command of the united brigade of “special operation” troops on 11 January. Sergei Surovikin, who had affected the group since October 8, 2022, became Gerasimov’s deputy.
Russia has established a “special operation” in Ukraine since February 24, 2022. In September, Vladimir Putin announced a partial mobilization, which, according to the Defense Ministry, mobilized 300,000 people for service. In November, Russia withdrew troops from Kherson, the only regional center that came under the control of the Russian army during the “special operation”.
At the end of December, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia would not take an important place on the basis of the “peace formula” by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. It provides for the withdrawal of troops, the adoption of hostilities and the restoration of the territory of Ukraine.
