A “Campus Sportdeutschland” is to be built in Frankfurt | hessenschau.de
Frankfurt is to be developed as a center for organized sport and its committed associations. That’s what Hesse’s Sports Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) said.
“We as the state of Hesse are proud that we are the home of the sports family,” said Beuth at the New Year’s reception of the German Olympic Sports Confederation this weekend: “We have to take care of the large renovation and investment needs at the Otto-Fleck-Schneise.”
The area there is the location of the DOSB and over 20 sports and sports associations as well as the Olympic base and the competitive sports center with a sports boarding school and sports clinic. At the same time, the newly built headquarters are nearby of the German Football Association and the Bundesliga soccer club Eintracht Frankfurt and its stadium.
Beuth thought of the idea of a “sports campus”
“The DOSB has a fairly fresh building, but we have to take care of everything around it,” said Beuth. Federal funds for modernization and expansion could flow for this: “We have managed to get our foot in the door of the budget and were able to win the federal government over to it and modernize the sports facilities and buildings.”
What is more important, however, is that a common idea is developed there and that these different sports offices are perhaps turned into “a sports campus”, “where we can realize the homeland across all associations”, said Beuth: “I hope that this will be successful in the next few years years to realize. It would be good for sport in Germany if we had such a clear, fixed structure and a center for German sport.”
DOSB boss Weikert: “Something has to happen”
DOSB President Thomas Weikert also sees a need for action so that Frankfurt remains the metropolis of sports associations. “Something has to happen, otherwise we can’t keep all the athletes and sports associations here,” he said.
