153,000 people use the Šalinkarta in Brno. Transport is preparing a bonus program
People can only buy a subscription ticket, the so-called Šalinkart, for Brno’s public transport in electronic form. The sale of paper ones ended more than a year ago. While in 2017 only forty thousand passengers rode the electronic line in Brno, in the following year more than 13 thousand.

About seventy percent of passengers use prepaid tickets in Brno. “We stopped issuing classic paper prank cards last January. Although we were dealing with a shortage of anonymous cards for about ten days, which was caused by a global shortage of chips, we solved the problem operationally. Passengers have learned to process their Šalinkarts themselves or with our help at pre-sale points,” commented Miloš Havránek, CEO of the Brno transport company.
According to him, thanks to this, the transport company can save up to several million crowns a year. Thanks to electronic ticketing cards, the carrier saved on updating the system for issuing paper subscription tickets, which originated in 2006, canceled two stores, five pre-sale points and also reduced the number of employees by eight.

The transition to electronic seloni travel cards affects almost forty thousand passengers. Approximately thirty percent of them needed help from transport company workers in setting them up. “Most often, it involves the complete establishment of a user account, its verification and the purchase of a specific ticket,” explained the head of the tariff department, Vít Prýgl.
In addition, residents of Brno can still receive a subsidy of 1,425 crowns for the annual Šalinkart if certain conditions are met. “The daily fare then comes out to only nine crowns. Our goal for the future is for every resident of Brno to own an annual subscription ticket. In this way, I will show my belonging to the city of Brno and support the development of our public transport. On the contrary, we will offer him a bonus program, the form of which we are currently starting to work on,” revealed Havránek.
Revenues from the sale of prank cards do not yet correspond to the pre-covid period. While in 2019 they amounted to 627 million crowns, last year it was almost sixty million less.
