MOLDPRES News Agency – Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu addressed a message on the occasion of the Diplomacy Day of the Republic of Moldova
Chisinau, 17 Jan. /MOLDPRES/. On January 17, the Diplomat’s Professional Day is marked in the Republic of Moldova. On the occasion of Diplomacy Day, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu addressed a diplomatic and consular body message of our countries, reports MOLDPRES with reference to the Press Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The message states:
“From Tokyo or Beijing, in the Middle East, in European countries and across the Atlantic Ocean, to Washington and Ottawa, the diplomacy of the Republic of Moldova is the team we rely on to promote the interests of our countries.
We work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days out of 365, to ensure the freedom of the country, the prosperity of our countries, peace in our country and to provide quality services for our citizens, our diaspora, our business people and to ensure a better future for our countrymen.
Last year, when war returned to Europe, we built strong partnerships abroad that enabled us to pursue these goals. Together with Mrs. President Maia Sandu, Mrs. Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița, Speaker Igor Grosu and the entire governance team of the Republic, we are achieving concrete results for our citizens to strengthen the role and place in Moldova united Europe.
Our absolute priority is accession to the European Union. Last year was a historic one, the year in which we obtained the status of a candidate country for EU accession. We have wanted this for a very long time and here it is open with 2022 we have entered a new stage of our history. Obviously, this means that we still have a lot of work to do, but it is already a structured thing that we will do together with the EU.
Last year we managed to strengthen our strategic partnerships with many countries, for us it is fundamental to strengthen support for the Republic of Moldova. Only on the MAEIE line we managed to organize 87 meetings with counterparts from 44 countries of the world. We managed to ensure the entry into force of 56 treaties, 71 new treaties were signed at the state, government and international organizations level. We were special guests at the G7 summit and the NATO meeting.
Our relationship with Romania remains central and fundamental to our future. You know very well that we invested a lot of effort to develop this relationship and to ensure that Romania will continue to be our anchor in Europe in the future. You know very well that we have developed our partnerships including by launching the Support Platform for the Republic of Moldova, initiated and co-chaired by Germany, France and Romania and in which more than 40 countries and organizations participate.
Mrs. Prime Minister mentioned that this year we will organize the most important summit ever held on the territory of our country – the Summit of the European Political Community. It is an opportunity to strengthen our place in Europe and we want, by organizing this summit, to increase our image growing internationally. At the same time, by developing the development of sectoral diplomas, we try to ensure that our colleagues in the government have maximum access to external assistance, to external partnerships, but also to the contribution of the Republic of Moldova to global and regional stability.
In this sense it will continue to be very important for us to implement all objectives in security and defense diplomacy. We pursue the objective of strengthening the security of our state.
Obviously, we will continue solidarity diplomacy for refugees from, we will continue active economic diplomacy to open new markets, to increase exports, to increase trade that will be a more stable and broader base for our economy.
We will also continue our anti-corruption diplomacy where we will do everything possible to ensure that they are not sanctioned and of course this will continue to be part of our diplomatic efforts. Equally important is cultural diplomacy, both to maintain our connection with the diaspora and to further promote our images abroad. You know very well that last year we achieved an important success together with Romania by recognizing the shirt with altita as part of the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO.
We continue to strengthen services for the diaspora. Last year we had a record number of consular actions – 143 thousand, we are also continuing the digitization of consular services, we launched the program portal for 13 diplomatic missions and we are going to turn off this portal for all diplomatic missions.
For the year that has started, we will have a lot of work, I mentioned the CPE summit, but the absolute priority is the accession to the EU. You are well aware that we are working together to respond to the Prime Minister’s order, which will result in the development of a plan to accelerate our EU accession process. Unfortunately, we lost many years on the approach to the EU, we are in a position to compensate for those lost time, that insufficient political attention given to the EU accession process. In the coming months, as before, we will have a lot of work to do with our colleagues in government. Having said that, I want to say thank you for everything he has done in 2022.
This year we will keep the same dynamic for building a more democratic, more prosperous and more European Moldova. This is the stake for 2023.
Happy Birthday to the Diplomacy of the Republic of Moldova! Happy Birthday to the man who made and continues to make the diplomatic system stronger, and our country more resilient!” concluded the head of diplomacy of the Republic of Moldova, Nicu Popescu.
